Mango Mojito

When you’ve got a favorite cocktail…you might as well make all the spins on it. Try this Mango Mojito recipe: sweet tart, tropical, and irresistibly refreshing! The classic Mojito is in our top greatest cocktails of all time, so we’ve dedicated ourselves to all the riffs on it, too. This one stars mango nectar for a nuanced, fruity flavor. Here’s how to make this mango cocktail!

What’s in this mango mojito recipe?

This mango mojito is a tropical spin on the Mojito, a classic cocktail invented in Havana, Cuba in the 1930’s. The drink took off when Ernest Hemingway helped to popularize it in America, though its origins may stem back hundreds of years to an indigenous medicine with lime, rum and mint.

Whatever the case, it’s now solidified in cocktail cannon by being added to the International Bartenders Association IBA Official Cocktails list. The mango variation simply uses mango nectar along with the classic ingredients:

Mangos and limes

More about mango nectar

What’s mango nectar? Is it the same as mango juice? Mango nectar is a beverage made from mango pulp and juice. It’s typically 50% or less juice, whereas a beverage labeled mango juice may have up to 100% juice.

Mango nectar has a delicately sweet sour flavor, and is often used in cocktail recipes. While it’s sweetened, the flavor isn’t overly sweet. This mango mojito has a hint of added simple syrup to bring out the fruity flavor even more.

Can you use fresh or frozen mango in this drink? Not really. We suggest making this Mango Margarita instead, or opting for a Mango Mimosa with mango puree!

Muddle, shake and strain

Outside of grabbing a bottle of mango nectar, there’s not much to this mango mojito recipe! You’ll follow the same steps as a classic mojito:

  • Muddle the mint. Place fresh mint in your cocktail shaker and gently mash it with a cocktail muddler (or wooden spoon).
  • Add the ingredients and ice. Grab the remaining ingredients, pour them in and add ice.
  • Shake and strain. Strain the drink into a highball glass.
  • Garnish and serve. Here’s where you can get fancy! Make up a batch of clear ice if you can: it really makes the drink! Then add a sprig of mint and a lime wheel.

  1. I worked in Cuba as a journalist for 10 years and enjoyed my share of perfectly prepared Mojitos using Havana Club Rum and Cuba sugar. I am now retired and living in Cambodia where the preferred version is made with passion fruit and simply called a Passion Mojito. It is made by adding the fruit of half a passion fruit to the classic mojito recipe. Very tropical and refreshing.
